Photo stop at the Casino Marino
Visit to Malahide Castle and gardens
Optional 1-hour Howth Cliff ride
Description
On this day trip we explore the North Shore of Dublin Bay. Our first stop will be at the Casino Marino. This small architectural jewel in neoclassical style is one of the most photographed buildings in Dublin, despite being secluded and hidden. You will be surprised both by its history and by its studied angles and its original details
.
We will continue to Malahide Castle where we will visit the interior and its gardens. It dates back to the 11th century and was expanded and restored during the period of Georgian splendour
.
The castle belonged to the Talbot family, who, generation after generation, inhabited the castle for 800 years.
The route continues along the coast from the town of Malahide, passing through Portmanock and reaching the Howth Peninsula.
This coastal area is protected as a natural bird reserve, where endangered species are found.
In Howth we will optionally walk (45 minutes) along the cliffs where the views over Dublin Bay reach up to the Wicklow Mountains
.
The town of Howth is very fashionable among Dubliners and many people come here to eat seafood brought fresh by the fishermen.
Seals and sea lions swim among the boats, looking for the least saleable fish that the ships throw into the sea.
In the village we have free time to eat and walk before returning to Dublin.
We are closed on January 1, March 17, December 25 and 26.
